Tahoe’s Band of the Year 2012 – Lake Tahoe Action (Dec 6, 2012)
Jelly Bread’s musical alchemy blends soul and funk, yet is thoroughly steeped in a Rock-Americana style with a dash of alt-rock radio appeal. The band’s chameleonic playlist is highlighted by dual vocals, four part harmonies, in-the-pocket drum and bass grooves, swampy lap steel guitar, dirt under the fingernails guitar licks, and take-’em-to-church organ that is downright appetizing.
Jelly Bread is fronted by award-winning songwriter, vocalist, guitarist and lap steel player, Dave Berry, along side songwriter, vocalist and beast of a drummer, Cliff Porter. Dave and Cliff have known each other since childhood, having grown up in the same neighborhood and attended the same schools. A few years back, Dave and Cliff began playing music together and realized the potential of joining musical forces. Brady Carthen, Cliff’s long time soul and gospel rhythm partner, stepped in and has been the band’s pillar on bass. With the recent addition of Eric Matlock on keys, Jelly Bread emerged with a high-energy calling card that melds elements of desert twang and the urban tones of funk & rock, balanced by exceptional songwriting and storytelling.
Jelly Bread has been delving into more extensive touring throughout the western United States this past year. The band has performed opening duties for the likes of Dragon Smoke (members of Galactic), Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, Rusted Root, JJ Grey and Mofro, Need To Breathe, Roy Rogers and the Delta Rhythm Kings. The recent schedule is highlighted appearances at premiere festivals to include Joshua Tree, Strawberry and High Sierra Music Festivals along with sharing bills with the likes of Bruce Hornsby, Railroad Earth, and Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds.
